Help for installing pinwheels

Garden pinwheels are usually easy to put in your garden if you have soft ground you just push them into the ground.  If your ground is hard this is not so easy to do. The best time to do this is after a good rain when the ground is soft. In some gardens because the ground contains a lot of clay it is not so easy to push the spinners into the ground. The solution for the hard ground is to get an cordless electric drill and an old drill bit that is that is smaller than the stick you are trying to push into the ground. See the pictures below for samples of what they look like.

I f you don’t have these tools you can usually find some at garage sales or flee markets. You can go down to your local hardware store and buy some new tools. Another option for those of you who prefere the internet is to buy the tools online. Try the following links for Cordless Drills, and Drill Bits.

Once you use the the twist drill bit for drilling in dirt it will loose it's sharpness and it will not be good for drilling into metal or wood but it will always be good for drilling into the ground. So keep your garden drill bits separate. I have included pictures of twist drill bits below to show you what they look like. I also included a picture of a spade bit which you should not use for drilling into the ground.

Measure how far you want the spinner stick to go into the ground. Subtract 1 inch from this measurement and mark the drill bit at that measurement with some tape so you how deep to drill the hole. If your drill bit is not that long just drill the hole as deep as the drill bit. Pull out the drill and put in you spinner. Push on the wooden stick it should go in very easily to snug it into the ground you can tap on the end of the stick with a small hammer.
